How we research

Literature reviews, not opinions

Every article reviews the studies indexed in PubMed and other primary sources, not manufacturer claims.

Sources you can check

Every article links its references, and the Data Sources page lists the journals and databases we rely on.

Honest about limits

Everything here is general education. It is not a substitute for advice from your own dentist.

Hi, I’m Redi Shuli. I’m a dental student at NYU College of Dentistry, and I’m the person behind HappyTeeth.Care.

I started this site in 2023 because so much dental advice online is marketing or guesswork. My goal is simple: read the research, explain it in plain English and help you make better decisions about your teeth. That includes knowing when it’s time to see a dentist.

I’ve worked in healthcare for years. Before dental school, I was an EMT (emergency medical technician), caring for patients at emergency scenes and on the way to the hospital. I spent four years in medical testing labs, including processing COVID-19 test samples during the pandemic. I also volunteered more than 200 hours in a hospital emergency department.

To prepare for dentistry, I shadowed dentists at multiple New York City practices and completed a master’s degree in biomedical sciences at Rutgers University. Before that, I earned a B.S. in Health and Nutrition from Brooklyn College (CUNY) as a Macaulay Honors student.

Lab work taught me to double-check everything, and I run this site the same way. Every article is a literature review. That means I go through the published studies and official guidelines on a topic, explain what they actually show and list every source so you can check them yourself. I’m not a licensed dentist yet, so nothing here is a diagnosis or a replacement for your own dentist. Think of it as a way to walk into your next appointment better informed.

Outside of school, I’m a second-degree black belt, and I taught taekwondo for more than six years. Teaching showed me that almost anything can be explained simply, and I try to do that in every article. I also like to go biking and work out at the gym, and I keep two large freshwater fish aquariums as a hobby.
